MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Film Development Council of the Philippines reports a remarkable surge in both applications and grantees under its local incentive program, CreatePHFilms (CPH). Through this program, the FDCP continues to uphold its mandate of supporting the development, production, and post-production of feature-length films, as well as fostering the creation of short films, ensuring Filipino filmmakers have the tools and opportunity to bring their stories to life.

This year, CreatePHFilms received its highest number of applications yet, reaching 159 submissions, that’s more than a 100% increase from the previous cycle. Out of these, 38 projects were awarded grants across the program’s various funding categories, marking a 12% increase in grantees from the preceding year.

This significant influx, particularly in applications, is driven in part by the launch of the new Short Film grant. More importantly, it signals a stronger and growing participation from both emerging and established storytellers nationwide.

Recognizing the diversity of creators joining the program, the FDCP is set to launch specialized grants dedicated to animation and documentary projects. These will be introduced under the Short Film and Project Development categories and will be operational by 2026. The new initiatives aim to uplift the creative potential of Filipino animators and documentary filmmakers, ensuring that their voices and visions are represented within the national incentive framework.

Furthermore, in a bid to strengthen its commitment to supporting up-and-coming local projects, the FDCP will increase the total incentive amount for the Project Development category. The initiative was founded on the insights of multiple stakeholders, and will allow greater flexibility and feasibility for local filmmakers to further develop their scripts, create a visual outline of the project, and overall breathe more life into their stories.
